Small businesses across the UK are gearing up for this year’s annual Small Business Saturday, which is taking place on December 6th. The day event, which was launched in the UK only last year, shines a spotlight on the nation’s small and medium-sized companies.

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day this year was a particularly special year for remembering, since it was 100 years since the beginning of the First World War – a war that cost millions of lives, including some 888, 246 British or colonnial soldiers.  Defeating the largest and best equipped army in Europe was always going to mean a terrible human price and as we mark the anniversary of the WW1 Armistice it is time to focus on the courage and sacrifice of our forbears.  

British Heart Foundation's 'Nation of Lifesavers'

Last week in Parliament I pledged my support for the British Heart Foundation’s ‘Nation of Lifesavers’ campaign, to increase the number of people trained in life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and help create a Nation of Lifesavers.  

Kenilworth Train Station

Earlier this month I was invited to join Cllr Peter Butlin, representatives from London Midland and the campaign group ‘A Station for Kenilworth’ and hop aboard the test train to make the journey between Leamington and Coventry.

I was pleased to welcome the HS2 Hybrid Bill Committee on a two day visit to Kenilworth and Southam last week.

Dementia Friends

Back in July, I spoke about my ongoing campaign to raise awareness on the issues of Dementia. I spoke about a number initiatives locally and nationally, and one of them was the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends Programme.
