JW

I welcome the government’s announcement that predicted grades will be accepted for A-Level and GCSE results.

Ofqual, as the body responsible for the management of results, has rightly decided to abandon its controversial algorithm, which especially without adequate appeals mechanisms, caused significant distress to many of my constituents and their families. It was clear the measures did not command public support and inadvertently led to disadvantage for students who had worked hard.

I want to thank everyone who got in touch with me on this issue. Your voice has been heard. I can only say how sorry I am that parents, students and indeed teachers have had to endure stress and anxiety over this issue.

If any constituents have any outstanding specific points they would like me to address, please email [email protected]

My role on the Intelligence and Security Committee of Parliament

The role of a Member of Parliament has many parts to it. In Westminster, MPs are asked to attend many events and to sit on various committees, as well as managing correspondence and meetings on legislation. This is largely why the House of Commons Chamber is rarely full.
