Ensuring Effective Electronic Tagging in Our Justice System

Electronic tagging has the potential to make our criminal justice system more efficient and mitigate the need for expensive prison places. But for that to happen, two things are crucial:

  1. The technology must be reliable.
  2. The Ministry of Justice must have the commercial expertise to manage contracts effectively.

I raised this in Parliament today—because if we get this right, we can expand the range of effective punishments available while maintaining public confidence. Ensuring both robust technology and strong contract management is essential to delivering justice that works.
