One hundred years ago, the news of the Armistice was celebrated on these shores and the First World War came to an end. It was a brutal war. Millions of lives were lost, countless families were torn apart and the world was never the same again.
Great to visit the busy Walkers factory in my constituency. Whilst I was there, I was able to tour the factory and hear about the many employment opportunities, including apprenticeships, that the company offers.
I recently went out with the Towpath Taskforce team in Stockton (in the constituency), meeting staff and volunteers who work hard to maintain our waterways. The Canal and River Trust is a charity that looks after the 2,000-mile long ‘green-blue ribbon’ across England and Wales.
Each year in the UK, thousands of parents and families go through the devastating experience of losing a child. On average, each day fifteen babies will sadly die either before, during, or shortly after birth.
Interesting meeting with Marc Levy of the Jewish Leadership Council to hear in particular about the opportunities the Jewish community is working to provide in arts, culture and sport, as well as the challenges that it faces at the moment.
Visit to Threadmaster Gauges, which is based in Kenilworth. This local business has been a leading manufacturer of thread and plain gauges for more than 35 years, and I was interested to learn more about the production process.
