Thank you for contacting me about the Timms Review on Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
When the Government first published their Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment Bill in Spring 2025, the focus of its reforms was wrong and through the proposed changes to PIP would have placed the burden of savings on disabled people whilst failing to address issues around sickness benefits and 'Fit Notes' entirely. I hope the Government have learnt the lessons of their welfare reform fiasco and produce a package of reforms that gets the sickness bill down and reassures disabled people across the country.
For the sake of the country, I hope the Government get to grips with welfare reform. The Timms Review is their opportunity to correct the mistakes they have made and outline well constructed changes that contrast the rushed and poorly consulted reforms included in their original iteration of the welfare Bill.
I look forward to seeing the outcome of the Timms Review. It is important that we get a sustainable resolution to the welfare system that gets people back into work and makes sure that those who need our support get it.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
