Cyber Security and Resilience Bill (Amendment NC13) July 26

Thank you for contacting me about the Cyber Security and Resilience (Network and Information Systems) Bill.

Large parts of our economy now depend on secure digital infrastructure, and I share your concerns that overreliance on foreign technologies weakens our national security. The Government is betting heavily on US hyper-scalers for our data centres and public services, while introducing regulations that favour large non-UK incumbents over domestic firms. It is important that Ministers are urged to use procurement to build our sovereign tech capabilities instead.

While we urgently need more domestic technology capabilities, I fear that New Clause 13 is a red herring. It is not feasible or possible to achieve full sovereignty in a global market or supply chain, as this proposal demands.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
