Thank you for contacting me about fuel duty.
You are right to highlight the impact of rising oil prices on motorists. The consequences of the Iran war are being felt across the world, including here at home in the price of fuel at the pump, and many of my constituents are understandably concerned about the additional cost this imposes on household budgets.
The Government cannot unilaterally lower the oil price, but it can take steps to mitigate the impact on drivers. I agree with you that rather than pointing fingers at petrol companies, Ministers should be looking at what they can control. The fuel duty increase scheduled for September should not happen when the effects of an energy crisis are still being felt.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
