I do not generally sign EDMs, however, I appreciate your concerns about access to ENHERTU, given its potential to improve outcomes for those living with secondary breast cancer.
NICE have recognised that the drug represents a “potentially significant development for people with this type of advanced breast cancer who currently have limited chemotherapy options and no targeted treatments available to them.”
However, in the absence of a commercial agreement that reduces the price, NICE does not recommend ENHERTU for use on the NHS. It is very disappointing that talks concluded in November 2024 ended without agreement, denying the opportunity for ENHERTU to be made available for 1000 women in England and Wales.
I urge Daiichi Sankyo and AstraZeneca to act with urgency to find a solution so that women with secondary breast cancer can access this life-extending drug through the NHS. NICE are able to re-consider the drug under a rapid review process, but this will require Daiichi Sankyo and AstraZeneca to reduce the price of the drug.
